Meet the Governors

Introduction:

The Governing Body of Our Lady of Lourdes RCPS is accountable for the school’s overall performance – though the school is run on a day to day basis by the Headteacher. The Governors work closely with the Headteacher to set the overall direction and aims of the school and to monitor our progress. The Governing Body acts as a ‘critical friend’ to the school offering a balance of support and challenge. Their responsibilities include appointing the Headteacher and other teaching staff; overseeing the school’s finances; making sure the curriculum is balanced and broadly based and setting targets for pupil achievement.

The Governing Body legal duties include:-

  • setting strategic direction, policies and objectives

  • approving the school budget

  • reviewing progress against the school's budget and objectives

  • appointing, challenging and supporting the Headteacher

There are several categories of governor appointed by different groups that have an interest in the school. These are Foundation governors, the Local Authority (“LA”), Parents, and Staff. All governors have equal status.

    The Governing Body:

Chair of Governors: Mr Jonathan Walsh (Foundation Governor)

    Headteacher: Mrs Joanne Davies

Foundation Governors: Father Paul Cannon, Mrs Margaret Dilger, Mr Aidan Healy,

Mrs Stephanie Sweeney, Mr Martin Hayes and Mr Martin Bannister.

Parent Governors: Mr Neil Price, Mr Graham Johnson

    Staff Governor: Miss Emma Dean

    LA Governor: Mrs Caroline Carlon

    Governor Committees:

The function and remit of the committees are:

    School Effectiveness Committee:

A committee operating under the delegation of the Full Governing Body to view the progress on premises, school finance, safeguarding matters and personal matters; ensuring the school meets the requirements of the National Curriculum and report back to the Full Governing Body.

    Pastoral Committee:

Admissions: A committee operating under the delegation of the Full Governing Body to discharge the functions conferred on it by relevant Education Acts and Regulations; to determine and review the admissions policy for the school; to rank all applications in accordance with the current determined admissions policy and to ensure the school continues to serve the needs of the whole community and compliance with the School Admissions Code.

Pay: A committee operating under the delegation of the Full Governing Body that deals with all staff pay matters (with the exception of the headteacher) and implements pay policy with consideration to staff performance.

Pay Appeals: A committee operating under the delegation of the Full Governing Body to consider any appeals against decisions of the Pay Committee.

Pupil Discipline: The Governing Body can delegate some or all of its functions in respect of exclusions to a committee consisting of at least three governors and such a committee may be called the Pupil Discipline Committee where one has been established.

Staff Discipline/DismissalTo consider disciplinary matters and dismissals where these functions have not been delegated to the Headteacher under the Staffing Regulations 2009 or, in the case of discipline, where the Headteacher has had detailed prior involvement.

Staff Discipline/Dismissal Appeals: To consider any appeals against decisions by the Headteacher/Staff Disciplinary/Dismissal Committee.
