I have been a Foundation Governor for almost five years and was appointed Chair in September 2016. Foundation Governors are appointed by the Bishop and are there to represent him in relation to decisions and governance of the school. I am on the Welfare Committee and I link to Class 4. I am also the Special Educational Needs (SEN) link governor and work along with Mrs. Davies and a small committee. I spend one afternoon a week (when I can) listening to children in Class 4 read which is always a pleasure. The children love to read and chat always lovely. I really enjoy this aspect as it allows me to get to know the children and learn their names.
Like Mrs. Howarth, I have been involved with the selection and interviewing of teachers and most recently a head-teacher for the school. This last task was very important and extremely rigorous.
When I was first in the role of governor I didn’t really know a great deal about how a governing body worked. To enable me to learn the complex role of governor I have attended many small courses that relate to my particular role.
I have been involved over the years with running a stall, selling raffle tickets or guess the weight of the cake at both the Christmas Fair and Summer Fair.
I love being invited to attend the wonderful shows the children perform whether that is Christmas, Easter or musical events. The school has such talented children.
My own children did not attend Our Lady’s school but my grandson did, he is now in his last year at St. Gabriels RC High School.
I hope that I will be able to carry out my role for a long time to come.
