Topic Ideas and Activities for W/C 15th June.

Hello Reception,

We hope you had a wonderful weekend and managed to enjoy some sunshine. Thank you for your super Tapestry postings all about your pirate and 3D shape activities. It was brilliant to see. This week our theme is the story of 'The Three Little Pigs'. We will be thinking about the story, acting it out and retelling it. You can do this inside or outside or even on a walk. We will also be thinking about the materials in the story. The suggested activities are above and there are more resources in the Topic Folder above. It is also Father's Day on Sunday so I have added in some activities to celebrate this special day.

For Maths we are recapping subtraction starting with physically removing objects and counting what is left to then moving on to encouraging your child to count back to find the answer. The best way is to count out some objects then hide them. Write the number to remind your child. Without your child seeing remove some objects and count these with your child. To work out how many are left they then have to count back from the number using the objects removed to help. Next we would just provide the numbers as a sum without objects. Please see resources in the Maths folder above and daily challenges on Tapestry.

Phonics - please see livestream Read Write Inc lessons at 9.30 and our daily activities around a book. I will also do some a phonics group zoom this week and will post the link and timings for this on Tapestry.

Please remember if you have any questions or just need a chat, please do not hesitate to message on Tapestry. Thank you again for all your wonderful support. Have a lovely week. Kind regards Mrs Kiddle and Reception Team.

I will put some videos and challenges on Tapestry throughout the week and resources in the Maths folder above. There are also some suggested Maths activities as part of our pirate topic linked to the White Rose scheme. These are also in the Maths folder.

Home Learning Ideas 18th May

Hi Reception,

We hope you had a good weekend. Thank you again for all the lovely learning about butterflies. I will post updates on Tapestry about our wonderful butterflies.

This week we are celebrating wonderful you and your special family. There are some suggested ideas above. For Maths we are thinking about the concept of a minute. First, have a look at ways of measuring a minute. This could be on the phone or tablet, timer, clock or stopwatch. Sit together for 1 minute to feel how long it is. I will set challenges throughout the week to reinforce this such as how many star jumps can you do in a minute? We will also have a little introduction to 0 clock towards the end of the week. There are some maths and topic resources in the above folders and I have added a Summer Maths mat in the Summer Maths activities folder. Please see Tapestry daily for Phonics activities and PE challenges.

Have a wonderful week Reception. Take care,

Mrs Kiddle and Reception Team

Home Learning Ideas 11th May - Butterflies!

Hello Reception,

We hope you enjoyed VE Day and had a lovely weekend.

This week we are carrying on with our learning all about butterflies thinking about how they are exactly the same on both sides, ie symmetrical. This also links well to learning about doubles. There are some suggested ideas above. For both symmetry and doubles, practical ideas really help to reinforce the concepts. For symmetry I would start by asking your child to look in a mirror and notice how their face is symmetrical and their body. Then look at things around you that if you drew a line down the middle will be exactly the same on each side. Butterflies are a lovely way to learn about symmetry. There are some outlines and resources in the Maths folders above or you can draw your own if not able to print. Painting, colouring, finger paints are all good for creating the same pattern on each side. If you have paints, painting one side of the butterfly and folding in half is also a lovely activity.

For doubles, I have put some power points and resources in the folder above along with some templates to practise doubles. Again, practical examples are really good here, so using food, toys objects to explain that we are adding the number to itself are a good idea.

I will set Maths Challenges based around this throughout the week as well.

Phonics live stream lessons are continuing this week. There are also some ideas and activities in the General resources Phonics folder. Miss Mckenna has used some of these with her boys and found them fun as well as really helpful.

We are still doing Zoom meetings this week and will let you know about a class meeting later in the week. Have a lovely week everyone,

Take care, Mrs Kiddle and Reception Team

Home Learning Topic Ideas 4th May - 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

Hello Reception,

We hope you had a lovely weekend. Over the next two weeks we will be learning all about butterflies. This week we will think about the life cycle and read the story 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. There are some ideas that you can choose to do above. I have also included Maths activities in with these looking at days of the week and solving number problems. Next week we will look at symmetry and doubles. I will set some maths challenges in the week around this theme. There are some resources in the topic and maths folder to support the ideas and some additional activities. I do try to be very mindful of resources and printers etc and so aim to suggest ideas that can be home made or use things around the home. However, there are also things that can be printed off.

Our caterpillars finally arrived and they are growing fast. Sienna has had a wonderful time watching her caterpillars grow. We would love to share this with you. I will be doing a lesson on zoom at 11.00 am on Tuesday 5th May all about the life cycle. It will be lovely to see you. I will send a link on Tapestry.

Phonics live lessons are continuing and we will continue to set a phonics activity linked to a reading book each day.

I am in the process of arranging individual chats on zoom and will be sending out further times on Tapestry this week. It will be lovely to have a chat with you.

Have a lovely week. Take care,

Mrs Kiddle and Reception Team

Topic Ideas 27th April - Picnics!

Maths Activities for 27th April - Halves

Hello Reception,

We hope you have had a lovely weekend.

This week we are carrying on from Goldilocks with a picnic theme. This can be in the garden or indoors and links to favourite toys and teddies.

Phonics will be following the Read Write Inc live stream lessons and we will continue to set a reading and writing activity linked to a Ditty or story.

Maths this week is learning all about halves. We first learn about halving an object and knowing that each half must be equal. We then look at finding half of quantities. Again this is a very practical concept best learnt through daily activities and play. I have also put some resources to support this in the Maths folder above. Please see the weekly activities attached above.

Topic activities are just some ideas and suggestions. As ever, please remember, we are aware of all the pressures you are facing. Thank you so much again for all your updates and support.

Have a lovely week, take care,

Mrs Kiddle and Reception team.

Home Learning Week 20th April

Hello Reception,

We hope you have had a lovely Easter week in the sunshine.

Maths Activities for the week are above. We will be teaching concepts that we would be doing in the summer term so please do not worry about repeating these activities to embed the learning. This week we are thinking about capacity. This is a very practical, hands on topic. There are also some additional resources in the Maths folder above.

Phonics Activities These will be set daily on Tapestry.

Topic Activities These are suggested activities linked to a theme. This week is the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Please see the suggested activities above. There are also some additional resources in the Topic folder above.

We recognise that lots of parents are working from home and/or maybe looking after more than one child and home learning can be difficult. If you can complete some Phonics and Maths every week that will ensure knowledge and skills already learnt will continue to embed and grow. The topic ideas are suggestions that are designed to cover aspects of the EYFS curriculum other than just Literacy and Maths. Again if some can be completed that is great but we do not expect every activity to be done. Just whatever you can manage.

Enjoy playing and have a lovely week. Please remember we are here to support you so please do not hesitate to message me on Tapestry.

Take care

Reception Team
