Homework Expectations

General - Topic-based optional homework will be set each half term in the form of a grid. This will have a wide range of different creative activities to complete.

Spelling - Each half term, a list of common exception words will be set on the website for children to practise at home as well as in class.

Maths - Children are expected to practise their times tables regularly using Times tables Rockstars.

Reading - Children are expected to read at home every day or at least three times a week and we

ask you to record this in their reading record for us to write up on Fridays. Even if your child is a

confident reader, you can help them by asking questions about the book to check their

understanding. Check that they understand the meaning of words and ask them why certain

punctuation is being used. Children can be asked to summarise the story or to discuss the characters in the book and why they like them or dislike them. It is useful for children to be able to talk about the types of books they like e.g., science fiction historical, adventure, etc.
