Love, Learn and Grow

Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

We follow in the footsteps of Jesus to Love Learn and Grow

Please note that daily and weekly home learning tasks are being set on our Seesaw page.

There are also links to learning activities on the Homework Information and Home Learning pages below.

Welcome to the 2019/20 academic year everyone.

We will continue to make a lot of use of internet based homework this year and we have been making a point of ensuring that all children have up to date log in details. However we will also be using printed homework books, particularly for Maths and English Comprehension as the year progresses.

Additional/optional Maths homework will be on MyMaths.co.uk. All children have login details for the site. English homework will, initially, revolve around weekly spelling lists (Spelling Shed) and Comprehension activities (Common Lit).

We will be taking part in the Global Read Aloud during October/November. During this project we will be sharing work and ideas with children in other countries through the class Seesaw blog and through Skype calls.

P.E. will take place on Mondays and Tuesdays, please ensure that your child has the appropriate kit and that ear-rings can be removed. We will make a point of trying to get outside for P.E., particularly on Tuesdays, so please ensure that your child has appropriate outdoor kit e.g. trainers, a long-sleeved top/sweat shirt etc.

All the children will continue to learn to play the harmonica as part of the Music curriculum. If your child does not have a harmonica, they will require a ten hole diatonic harmonica in the key of C - the Hohner Silver Star is recommended, though obviously, other brands/models are available!

To aid our communication with you this year, we will continue to use Seesaw. Please note that last year's Seesaw page has been archived so you will need to re-register for this year's page (letters went home on Thursday 5th September). It would be great if we could have parents of all the children on Seesaw as, not only does it enable you to see and hear the work your child is doing in class on a day to day basis, but also provides a clear channel of communication between parents and teacher.

Finally, as you all know me, we are not holding a formal 'meet the teacher' to start the year. Instead, I will be available for an informal drop-in on Friday 13th September, between 3:15pm and 3:45pm. We will be holding a more formal meeting later in the term in which we will present details about the Year 6 PGL trip..., and I may mention something about SATs!

Kind Regards,

John Phelan
