Reading
'They read from the Book of the Law of God, making it clear and giving the meaning so that the people understood what was being read.'
Nehemiah 8:8
Every child a Reader
At Our Lady of Lourdes we believe that high quality English lessons will develop children’s love of reading, writing and discussion. Our English curriculum follows the National Curriculum for English 2014. Our curriculum is built to offer exposure to high quality texts and opportunities for purposeful writing and discussion. We encourage and support children to develop their oracy and discussion skills alongside their written and comprehension skills. We support the development of vocabulary and spelling, punctuation and grammar through both discreet strategies and text based learning. We encourage our children to read widely and for pleasure and staff actively promote a love of reading throughout the school. We support early reading development through the synthetic phonics programme Read Write Inc. Our English curriculum provides a clear and purposeful progression of key literacy skills from EYFS through to Key stage two allowing children to develop a secure knowledge base that supports and promotes success across the curriculum.
