The children are given homework related to the sounds they have been learning in their Read, Write, Inc. lessons each week.

Each Phonics group are given homework on a Friday to be returned to school the following Tuesday, these dates are written in the children's books for each homework.

Their homework involves spelling green and red words, and writing sentences that include the words they have been learning.

Green words are words that can be sounded out following the rules the children have been learning.

Red words are tricky, and often frequently occurring, words that do not follow the normal rules that the children have been learning so cannot be sounded out.
