English
In spring 1, our first topic is poetry. We are specifically looking into poetry with similes and metaphors. We are working together to create actions in Talk for Writing and building up our confidence to perform poetry at the end of the topic.
Talk for writing: creating images to represent actions to the poem

Performing poetry:
We watched authors such as Michael Rosen and analysed how he uses different techniques to perform his poem. We then analysed our poems further, thinking about which parts were suitable to change our tone, expression, pitch, and where we could even add sound effects.
We are now reading through our new class novel, Beowulf. Throughout the rest of this half term, we are looking into character and setting descriptions, building up a rich vocabulary bank. We are using new writing techniques and features, working towards writing an explanation for our own machines that we have designed in order to defeat our novel villain, Grendel.

Our next class text is the Lorax by Dr Seuss. This is a fantastic tale that explores the effects of deforestation through telling a tale about a Lorax who once lived where the Grinkle Grass grows. The Once-ler is keen to share the story and explains how the Grinkle Grass once grew.
