British Values
Promoting British Values
At Our Lady of Lourdes we are committed to serving our community and surrounding areas. We recognise the multi-cultural and multi-faith nature of the United Kingdom and understand the crucial role our school plays in promoting these values. We understand our role in ensuring that groups or individuals are not subjected to intimidation or radicalisation by those wishing to unduly, or illegally influence them.
We follow equal opportunities policies that guarantees there will be no discrimination against any individual or group, regardless of their protected characteristic. Our staff are dedicated in preparing children for their adult life beyond the formal education and ensuring we promote and reinforce British Values to all our children.
The DFE have recently reinforced the need to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British Values of:
Democracy - to understand how children can influence decision making through a democratic process
Rule of Law - to appreciate that living under the rule of law protects us and is essential for our well-being and safety
Individual liberty - to understand that the freedom to choose is protected in law
Mutual Respect - to understand that while people may hold different views, we may show respect towards them
Tolerance of different faiths and beliefs - to accept that others have different faiths or beliefs 9or none) and these should be accepted and tolerated.
Our own grown curriculum has been designed to teach each aspect of the British values, ensuring the teaching is progressive, sequential and builds on prior knowledge.
At Our Lady of Lourdes, we continually promote British Values through our enrichment activities, our Gospel values, our charity work, themed days and links with the local community.
