    Monday 6th December 2021
RE: Warn and Inform positive COVID-19 case – Year 2
Dear Parents and Carers of children in Year 2,
We have been advised by Bury Council’s Public Health Team that there has been a confirmed case of COVID-19 within your child’s Year 2 class at Our Lady of Lourdes RCPS. It is Miss Ritchie the class Teacher.
We have now had a further 3 positive cases confirmed in another class. We would strongly urge parents to take their child for a PCR Test if you have not already done so as all the children have been in close proximity last week. If any child develops any symptoms at all they must immediately go for a PCR test not a Lateral Flow Test as these are not accurate if a child has symptoms.
In line with the national guidance, children aged under 18 years are no longer required to self-isolate if they are a close contact of someone who has tested positive for COVID-19.
Your child and other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your child does not develop symptoms.
Your child may have been in contact with the positive case. People who have been in contact with someone who has tested positive with COVID-19 are advised to get a PCR test, whether or not they have symptoms. If this test is positive, they must isolate for 10 days. PCR tests can be booked via https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested or by calling 119.
Children who are aged under 5 years old who are identified as close contacts will only be advised to take a PCR test if the positive case is in their own household.
Please note people should not need to be re-tested via an LFD test or PCR test within 90 days of a previous confirmed positive test, unless new symptoms develop, in which case they should book a PCR.
What to do if your child develops symptoms of COVID-19
If your child develops symptoms of COVID-19, they must isolate and you should arrange a test for your child via https://www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested or by calling 119.
If the test result is positive, your child will be required to self-isolate for a period of 10 days from the day that their symptoms started. Please inform us if your child has a positive test result.
If your child’s test result is negative, they can continue with their normal activities if they are well enough to do so.

However, people frequently present with a wider range of symptoms. If you or your child feel newly unwell with Covid-19 symptoms, then please access a PCR test. For many people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.
    How to stop COVID-19 spreading
There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting COVID-19:

  • Letter Full Reopening of Schools - 8th March

    Mon 01 Mar 2021

Chair of Governors: Mr J Walsh
At Our Lady of Lourdes, we follow in the footsteps of Jesus to love, learn and grow
    Love, Learn and Grow
    1 March 2021
    Dear Parents and Carers,
Full reopening of schools – 8th March
It is with great delight that I write to you to confirm the arrangements of all children returning to school on Monday 8th March. All the staff are excited to be welcoming all the children back to school.
The systems of control that were in place before lockdown remain in place with the addition of staff carrying out lateral flow testing twice a week and also the use of face coverings in and around school for staff. Staff wear face coverings as they work in shared areas as well as walking around the school building. They do not wear them in their own classes.
Below, I have listed the information you will need before returning to school on Monday. If you have any questions, please do contact the school office.
    STAGGERED START AND FINISH TIMES
We will continue our system of staggered start and finish times and use of the one way system with the gates. The times have altered for some groups so please read the timings below carefully.
    Reception, Year 5 and Year 6 – 8.30am – 3.00pm
    Year 1, Year 2, Year 3, Year 4 – 8.45am – 3.15pm
It is important to stress that parents and carers should not stay on the playground or on the pavement outside school chatting, they need to drop off / pick up and leave as soon as possible. Face coverings must be worn on the playground unless you are exempt. Only one adult should be bringing or collecting children to reduce the number of people on the playground.
    SCHOOL UNIFORM
Children will be expected to come to school in their full school uniform. If you are struggling with new school uniform, please speak to the office as we have a lot of donations of good quality uniform in school.
On the day your child has PE, the children will be expected to come into school in their full PE kit for the day. This is to reduce the number of items children are bringing into school. Children do not bring their PE kit into school on other days unless they are doing an after school club. On the day your child has forest school, they should come into school in their forest school clothes with a change of dry clothes to go home in.
    SCHOOL EQUIPMENT
We need to limit the items children bring in from home. Children on packed lunches can bring their lunch boxes to school. Children must bring in their own water bottle. Children should not bring in their own pencil cases, these will be provided. Children will bring home reading books from school and they will be thoroughly cleaned before resending them out to other children.
    ATTENDANCE
The Government Guidelines state that attendance is mandatory from 8th March for all those who are eligible to return. If your child is unwell, you must inform the office immediately about your child’s illness and this will be recorded. If your child
does become unwell with a new persistent cough or a high temperature, or has a loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell, they must stay at home and arrange a test to see if they have coronavirus. Communication between home and school is essential to enable school to carry out the appropriate measures in protecting all the children in school.
The guidance on holidays in term time remains the same. The Headteacher cannot authorise holidays to be taken in term time unless there are exceptional circumstances.
    REMOTE EDUCATION
In the case that we have to close a class due to a positive case of coronavirus, remote education will be in place as it has been during lockdown. You will need to access Tapestry (reception) and Seesaw (year 1 – 6) to keep up to date with the online learning and communication from the class teacher.
OLLIES BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL CLUB
Ollies Before and After school club will remain closed on 8th March. This decision will be reviewed before Easter. Parents will be notified of any changes at the earliest opportunity. Please contact Ollies if you have any questions about this matter.
    EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
We will not be reintroducing our extra-curricular activities timetable until the summer term.
    HOME TESTING KITS FOR PARENTS
The Government announced this weekend that all households with children of school age can get 2 rapid COVID-19 tests per person per week. A new home ordering service is being launched today which will allow people to order lateral flow tests online and have them delivered to their home.
This intervention is to help stop the spread of coronavirus. The more people in our community who carry out these tests will prevent the spread. Once we get further details for ordering your tests, we will forward this information on.
    THE CURRICULUM
A lot of our parents who have been working at home with their children are concerned that their children will have fallen behind their peers who have been in school. Our school priority is to focus on those children who have been at home during lockdown. The children have had excellent teaching and learning through remote learning but we recognise that working at home for some children is not the same as when they are in school. We will be using the next few weeks to recap on work covered to ensure children do not have any gaps in their learning. Our journey to excellence will continue with our learning and teaching. Parents and carers will have the opportunity to discuss their concerns at their child’s parents evening in the week of 15th March.
    THANK YOU
As I have communicated before with parents and carers, on behalf of all the staff in school, I cannot thank you enough for your ongoing support and commitment to your child’s education. It has been an extremely difficult year for everyone but we have got through it working together as a team.
I look forward to seeing all the children in school on Monday.
    Kind regards,
    JE Davies
    Mrs J.E. Davies

Parents /Carers of children and young people
    in Bury schools
    Dear Parent/Carer
COVID-19 UPDATE FOR PARENTS – NATIONAL LOCKDOWN ARRANGEMENTS
We had hoped to be welcoming all primary pupils and, under a phased approach, all secondary pupils back into Bury schools following the Christmas break. However, we are now in a very different situation with the national lockdown announcement on 4 January, the unprecedented pressure on NHS services and the urgent need for everyone to avoid contact with people from outside their household, if at all possible. The announcement means that Bury schools have moved to remote learning for most pupils, with the exception of special schools and alternative provision.
Our schools continue to review the risk assessments that they put in place at the start of the first national lockdown to ensure that risks are minimised. The key is to keep the number of contacts as low as possible in order to minimise opportunities for the virus to be transmitted. Schools will keep pupils who are attending in ‘bubbles’ as far as is possible to support this.
Every school is unique and its capacity, following its COVID-19 risk assessment, will depend on the size of rooms, number of rooms and available staffing. Places are available to all vulnerable pupils. Places are also available to children of critical workers, if they cannot be kept at home.
The Department for Education updated its guidance ‘What parents and carers need to know about early years providers, schools and colleges’ on 8 January 2021. The guidance can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/what-parents-and-carers-need-to-know-about-early-years-providers-schools-and-colleges-during-the-coronavirus-covid-19-outbreak.
    Vulnerable Pupils
Bury schools are open to all vulnerable pupils. If your child is identified as vulnerable then they should be in school unless they are shielding or self-isolating. We strongly encourage you to send your child into school. If you are unsure and have any concerns about your child returning then please discuss this with the school.
    Critical Worker Children
Bury schools are also open to children in families where at least one parent is a critical worker and you are unable to keep your child at home. A critical worker is someone whose work is critical to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and EU transition response. The message is clear. If you are a critical worker and you can keep your child at home then you should do so. Please discuss your needs with your child’s school.
The government’s definitions of vulnerable pupils and critical workers can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision#vulnerable-children-and-young-people. Department for Children and Young People Julien Kramer Interim Assistant Director (Education and Inclusion)
    Nursery Provision
Where possible nursery schools, and nursery provision in schools, should be open to all children. Places are available for all vulnerable children and children of critical workers. The capacity to open to other children will be based on the individual school’s risk assessment.
    Special Schools and Alternative Provision
If your child attends a Bury special school or Spring Lane School, these schools will continue to be open to all pupils, unless they are shielding or self-isolating or the school does not have capacity, for example, due to staffing levels.
Millwood Primary Special School is due to re-open to pupils on 25 January 2021 following remedial works to the school building.
    Remote Education
If your child is not attending school then remote learning will be in place for them. It is important that you work with your child encouraging them to engage fully with the remote learning. There is guidance for parents/ carers on keeping children safe online available at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-keeping-children-safe-online/coronavirus-covid-19-support-for-parents-and-carers-to-keep-children-safe-online.
Schools have developed their approaches to remote learning since the first national lockdown however if you are experiencing any difficulties in accessing the remote learning then please contact your school.
    Public Health England Advice
Please continue to follow the health advice on coronavirus. If your child shows any of the three main symptoms of COVID-19 then they should be kept off school, tested as soon as possible and the school kept informed. This is to keep all as safe as possible. The three main symptoms are:  a high temperature – this means they feel hot to touch on their chest or back; if you have a thermometer and are able to take the child’s temperature this means a temperature higher than 37.8oC  a new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more coughing episodes in 24 hours  a loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal
    Rapid Testing in Secondary Schools
If you have a secondary school aged child then their school may be taking part in the rapid asymptomatic testing programme. The testing will be used to test those pupils who are attending school. Whilst the testing is voluntary we strongly encourage those who are eligible to take part to help reduce the risks of transmission in education settings.
Families and schools have both needed to change their plans for this term quickly, thank you to all of you. I am sure that we share the wish that all our pupils are back in school at the earliest opportunity. We need to continue to work together in order to achieve this wish therefore I urge families to follow the restrictions under this national lockdown.
    Yours sincerely

  • Remote Learning - Newsletter 15

    Mon 11 Jan 2021
OUR LADY OF LOURDES RCPS NEWSLETTER
We follow in the footsteps of Jesus, to love, learn and grow.
    Monday 11th January 2021 15
    Dear Parents and Carers,
    Remote Education
Today we start our Remote learning package. Staff have worked extremely hard to
cater for all the children who are accessing learning from home. The content and
lessons that children are accessing at home are also used in school, there is no
difference to the content that they are learning. Remote education will include a daily
Teams meeting and lessons pre-recorded for children to access at any time of the day.
We are expecting all children to engage with their learning daily. Children should upload
their work onto Tapestry or Seesaw and teachers will respond to the children during
    the school day.
There have been a lot of questions about our Remote Education package from parents
but I would ask parents and carers to work with us this week and give it a chance.
Towards the end of the week, if your child is struggling with the way in which the
learning is presented or your child is struggling to be motivated, I would then ask you
to contact your class teacher with your concerns. By contacting your class teacher you
can work together and hopefully we can resolve the issue. If you feel your concerns
have not been dealt with, please contact myself or Mrs Waterworth.
    Critical Worker Status
As you will have seen through the media over the week, the number of children
attending schools is significantly higher than the last lockdown. This is as a result of
the Government list of jobs that have been identified as ‘Critical workers’. The
definition of a critical worker are those parents whose work is critical to the
Coronavirus and EU transition response. At Our Lady of Lourdes we have a significantly
higher percentage of children attending school compared to the last lockdown. I am not
questioning any parent who has been offered a place in school but I would ask that, if,
there is a parent who is working from home or you have a support bubble that can look
after your child, that you use this support rather than sending your child into School.
The Government initiative of ‘Stay at Home’ is to reduce the rate of transmission of
Covid. By reducing the number of children in School, we are reducing the rate of
transmission. Thank you for your support in this matter.
    COVID Guidance
For those families who are attending school, we must continue to be vigilant and we all
have a responsibility to stop the spread of coronavirus. If you or your child have any of
the three symptoms: a high temperature; a new, continuous cough; a loss or change to
your sense of smell or taste; you MUST self-isolate and book a test to see if you have
Coronavirus. Whilst you are waiting for the test and the results, your whole household
MUST self-isolate. This is to reduce the spread of COVID.
    Sunday Mass
Fr Paul continues to say Mass weekly on a Sunday at 10.00am and it is live streamed.
They have now installed permanent livestream equipment. To access the new livestream
    go to: www.faithstream.co.uk/olgcga
    Thank you
These are unprecedented times and I can only thank everyone who has been very
understanding in these difficult times. Please do keep communicating with school if you
    have any questions.
If you require work to be photocopied, we can organise this to be collected at the
school office. If you are having difficulty with accessing the online learning, please
    contact the school office.
Thank you for your continued support and I hope this week’s remote learning goes
    really well.

  • Information for Children of critical workers or vulnerable children attending school on January 7th

    Wed 06 Jan 2021
    6th January 2021
    Dear Parents and Carers,
Letter for parents and carers of children who are critical workers or vulnerable children who are attending school on January 7th 2021
Thank you for your patience and understanding over the last few days in organising places for your children. As previously stated, the Education provision offered to children this time looks very different to the previous lockdown. Below are some points that will hopefully answer any of your questions in preparation for your child returning to school on Thursday 7th January 2021.
 There will be a one way system on the playground when dropping your child off and picking them up. Staff will be available on the playground to show you where to go
 Only one adult should collect their children to reduce the number of people on the playground
 All persons over the age of 12 should wear a mask/face covering on the school grounds unless they are exempt. Please wear your lanyard to show your exemption or notify a member of staff
 Staggered start and finish times have been altered for January 2021:
     Children in Year 1, year 2, year 5 and 6 – 8.30am – 3.00pm
     Children in Reception, Year 3 and 4 – 8.45am – 3.15pm
 As in autumn term, if you have more than one child, their start time will be the earliest start time for any child and your pick up time will be the latest pick up time for your children
 The schools catering service will be operational in school for those children on School Dinners. A new menu has been issued to schools. This will be shared with parents once it has been confirmed
 Children will be expected to wear their full school uniform. On PE days, children will come to school in their PE kits. PE lessons will be outside (unless there is extreme weather) therefore children should wear the appropriate clothing
 Children will still be accessing Forest School and on these days, they should come to school in the appropriate outdoor clothing and have a change of clothing for the end of the day (teachers will notify parents of these days through Seesaw or Tapestry)
 We will be following the usual timetable in school to ensure the structure of the day remains the same for children. Each class will be taught by their class teacher for part of the day and support staff will support them for the remaining part of the day whilst the class teachers work remotely for those children at home
 The school office will be open as usual. Please pass your enquiries through the office
 Staff will be wearing masks around school when they are not with their bubble
 Bubbles will now be class bubbles and will not be mixing with other classes within school
 Regular handwashing will continue to be part of the children’s routine
 Additional cleaning will still be in place throughout the school day
 Forward facing desks, ventilation in classrooms and children using their own equipment will continue to be in place
Once again, I thank you for your patience and understanding this week. If you have any questions about the reopening of school, please contact the school office. Thank you for your continued support.
    Kind regards,
    Mrs JE Davies
    Executive Headteacher
