Eco Group & Gardening Club

Welcome to the Eco Warriors page.

Our Eco Warriors group was established to help our children become more effective citizens, by encouraging them to take responsibility for the future of their own environment. We care for our common home.

It is not about environmental excellence; it is about looking at how our school affects the environment and the steps we can take to help manage this impact. Our learning extends beyond the classroom and we develops responsible attitudes both at home and in the wider community.

Follow our journey here:

Welcome to the Gardening Club page.

**Benefits of a School Gardening Club:**

 **Environmental Awareness:**

Gardening clubs help children understand the importance of plants, soil, and the environment, fostering a sense of responsibility towards nature.

 **Healthy Eating Habits:**

By growing their food, children learn about their nutrition sources and are more likely to try and appreciate fresh produce.

 **Teamwork and Responsibility:**

Working together in a garden requires cooperation and shared responsibility, which helps develop valuable social and life skills.

 **Connection to Nature:**

Gardening provides a hands-on connection to nature, which can benefit mental and physical well-being.

 **Curriculum Enrichment:**

Gardening activities can be integrated with various subjects such as science, math, and art, enriching the learning experience.

Activities in a School Gardening Club

**Planting and Caring:**

Children learn about various plants, soil types, and gardening techniques through hands-on activities. This includes planting seeds, transplanting seedlings, and caring for their plants.

**Creating and Maintaining a Garden:**

Children participate in designing, building, and maintaining a school garden, which helps them develop a sense of ownership and pride in their work.

**Harvesting and Tasting:**

Children can harvest their vegetables and fruits, allowing them to taste the produce they have grown. This activity helps connect them to the food they eat.

**Bug Hotels:**

Building and maintaining a bug hotel teaches children about beneficial insects and their important roles in the garden ecosystem.

**Seasonal Activities:**

Gardening club activities can be tailored to different seasons, such as planting bulbs in the autumn, sowing seeds in the spring, and harvesting crops in the summer.

Please see our previous projects below.

Our Eco Warriors attended the Sustainability Learning Conference where they picked up many ideas to bring back to school.

During British Science Week, we focussed on biodiversity and how we protect and restore it in our world. We had a special visit from Kirsty from the University of Manchester to whom we presented our school project on biodiversity.

World Earth Day! We found out how our oceans are filled with plastic and what we can do to make a difference. We also made sure we took some time to have fun in nature and appreciate its beauty.

World Environment Day! Each class in our school made an important pledge to show that they care for our common home. From reducing plastic waste and recycling to litter picking and making bird feeders, every little makes a difference.

Encouraging the school to litter pick in our local area.
